The Sansum Clinic Eye Care Center (phone, fax, hours, directions) has the only Pediatric Ophthalmologist in the tri-county area.
Dr. Mark Silverberg has had highly specialized training in examining children and caring for their eye problems. Vision develops until about age 9, so if eye problems are detected early, children can grow up with good vision in each eye. If your child's primary care physician recommends that your child have his eyes examined, Dr. Silverberg will have the greatest knowledge of possible conditions and the greatest experience in correcting the issues.
An examination with our Pediatric Ophthalmologist might include the following services for babies and children:
- vision testing
- measuring eye position in patients with strabismus (misaligned eyes)
- examining the eyes for abnormalities that might indicate genetic conditions, diabetes, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, and eye injuries
- examinations that determine the type and strength of glasses a child needs
Children are often not able to say what is bothering them and not all eye conditions are apparent. They have different eye conditions from adults, and they aren't always able to be patient and cooperative during an eye examination.
Dr. Silverberg has a special touch for working with children and has the latest equipment and technology designed specifically for our young patients. Our waiting area is designed like a play room to create a comfortable place for children to enjoy.
We offer the most comprehensive services available. Under one roof you will find the Pediatric Ophthalmology office, Laser Eye Care Center, Ophthalmology office, Optometry office and Optical Shop. We have the only full-time glaucoma specialist and the only ASOPRS oculoplastics fellow in Santa Barbara, and we perform more eye surgery than any other ophthalmology office in the area.
