Cardiology Services We Provide
The primary areas of heart disease treated are:
Cardiologists and Heart Surgeons
Our board-certified cardiologists and heart surgeons work tirelessly to improve the health of our patients. As a teaching and medical research facility, they are able to offer patients the latest technologies and access to new life-saving therapies
Echocardiography Excellence: ICAEL Accreditation
Sansum Clinic's echocardiography laboratory recently received accreditation from the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories (ICAEL), making it the first accredited lab in Santa Barbara County.
Sansum Clinic is continually looking for ways to more effectively meet the healthcare needs of the people in our community in Santa Barbara. This noninvasive test has become one of the standard diagnostic tools in cardiology.
Echocardiograms allow us to detect potential problems early and manage many types of heart disease. Technology in the advancing field of echocardiography continually evolves and the ICAEL accreditation process tries to ensure that echocardiography labs meet a high standard of quality and proficiency.
This accreditation speaks to the quality of the staff at our laboratory and the hard work they put in to make Sansum Clinic the first accredited echocardiography lab in the Santa Barbara region.
Innovative advances in interventional cardiology, clinical cardiac electrophysiology, and nuclear cardiology are accessible by Sansum Clinic Cardiologists.
Interventional Cardiology
Interventional Cardiology is a sub-specialty of cardiology and refers to diagnostics and non-surgical treatments of the heart. Cardiac interventions are used to diagnosis and treat coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease and congenital heart disease.
Sansum Clinic Interventional Cardiology provides percutaneous coronary revascularization, which re-establishes blood flow to the heart when its vessels have been damaged or blocked. Approximately 1,000 interventions per year are performed by the Cardiology Department in the treatment of coronary artery disease and valvular heart disease instead of traditional open-heart surgery.
Cardiac Electrophysiology
Cardiac Electrophysiology, also a sub-specialty of cardiology, is the focus on the heart's electrical system and heart rhythm. Abnormalities in a person's heartbeat can be a symptom of a serious condition.
Sansum Clinic's Electrophysiology Specialist treats patients with a variety of conditions using the latest techniques and technology. At Sansum Clinic, the full range of electrophysiology procedures are performed; Cardiac arrhythmia mapping, Cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT), Pacemaker implantation, Standard & complex catheter ablation therapy, Pharmacological management, etc...Cardiac Electrophysiology referrals are made through primary care physicians and/or fellow cardiologists.
Nuclear Cardiology
Nuclear Cardiology, like radiology, uses ionizing radiazation, which causes transfers at the cellular level. Small amounts in the form of radioactive tracers are used to bind specific organs in a person's body where the nuclear camera localizes the tracer and transfers it into a picture. Physicians recommend a myocardial perfusion test to check the amount of blood circulation within the heart. Perfusion imaging identifies areas of reduced blood flow associated with coronary artery disease and other abnormalities. The Cardiology Department offers state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization using low-radiation, high-resolution digital equipment that maximizes both patient safety and image quality.
The Cardiology Department works closely with other specialty departments associated with the medical faculty at Sansum Clinic, including our Anticoagulation Clinic, Cardiac Rehabilitation, Internal Medicine, Neurology, and Pulmonary & Critical Care.
