Asthma is a lung disease that makes breathing difficult for nearly 23 million Americans. The National Heart Lung and Blood Institute states that education is the cornerstone to asthma care. Sansum Clinic offers the only asthma education program open to the community. Each year approximately 200 people meet with Sansum Clinic's asthma educators. Asthma education tracks two statistics that demonstrate efficacy: an overall measure of control based on an Asthma Control Test and the percentage of patients who use a controller medicine properly. Participants in asthma education consistently improve in both areas.
